Eclectic Dining That’s Super Casual
After a long day traveling in BlueSteele, the last thing we wanted to do was rustle up some grub. We needed something simple and fun. Waiting at a drive-thru or at a fast-food joint wasn’t on our menu either. We needed to be a little more adventurous – we needed to GTS! (Google That Stuff).
Corinne’s search brought up a place we had eaten lunch at with friends that last time we were in San Angelo. We enjoyed our lunch and our visit, so why not try it again? The Twisted Root Burger Company, 333 South Chadbourne Street in downtown San Angelo, Texas would be our dinner location. (http://www.twistedrootburgerco.com)
Twisted Root has a simple philosophy when it comes to ordering. Read the menu at the counter and place your order. Simple, right? After you order and pay, you receive a card with a celebrity’s photo and name on it. Ours was Frank Sinatra, fitting, we thought because he is one of our favorites. The condiments and utensils are available near the self-service beverage dispensers. And don’t forget to grab some paper towels as napkins. It’s just fitting for such a casual place.
Listen for your celebrity’s name over the loudspeaker and go get your grub! Simple as that. We chose to eat on the outdoor deck overlooking the park and the riverwalk. Since the weather was in the ’80s, even after dark, we think we made a good decision. This is a great way to sit back and enjoy a meal.
The Meal
I ordered the Cobb Salad with Grilled Chicken. The nice surprise was the pickled onion and feta cheese. The romaine lettuce was as fresh as it gets and the lemon vinegarette salad dressing was refreshing. A great complement in taste. The grilled chicken was done to perfection.
Corinne ordered the Cowboy Burger, cooked medium with fried onion straws, bacon, pepper jack cheese, and jalapeno (we’re in Texas, remember) all served on a fresh bun that was butter-toasted. Her side order of hand-cut french fries was hot and delicious. With a Corona with lime to wash it down, this was the perfect dinner.
The staff was courteous and the service was prompt. The facility was clean and the decor was western-themed, with a Texas twist. The humor was subtle, par for the course in the Lone Star State.
Overall, we’d give this adventure 4 stars out of 5 for the food; service was 5-star as was the facility/decor. Would we go back again -YES! Should you check out the Twisted Root Burger Company in San Angelo? Absolutely!
