There have been so many occasions that draw the attention away from where the real action is. Take a simple sunset. Looks awesome, bright, colorful, dramatic – a real eye-catching moment. Definitely the bling of the evening, right?
When you are in that moment of awe and spectacle, it is the easy thing to do to use all your focus (sorry for the photo pun) to capture the majesty of what is unfolding. I suggest that nature is creating a distraction. Look around, behind you! Often, the sunlight creates an as-spectacular image opportunity. The reflection of the sun on a building’s facade, the tips of the trees that are kissed with golden light, and the pastel hues on the cloud behind you tell an often-missed story. Almost always, the product of the waning light creates a scene that is inviting and unique.
My message: stop and look around at the “other sunset”.
